Wavestream Announces New 60 Watt Ku-Band GaN Block Upconverter

Wavestream’s new 60 Watt BUC delivers 40% more linear power while drawing 10% less DC power in the same package size as the previous generation design

San Dimas, California, March 13, 2018 – Wavestream, a world leader in the design and manufacture of next generation high-power solid-state amplifiers, announced today a new 60 Watt Ku-band GaN Block Upconverter. The new BUC maintains the same package size as the previous 40W solution with the benefit of 40% more linear power while drawing 10% less DC power. The solution is intended for wide use in both commercial and military environments for Comm-On-The-Move and stationary VSAT applications.

The MIL-STD-461 compliant design draws on Wavestream’s long experience in producing highly reliable products that operate in harsh environments and demanding applications. Both military and commercial applications using ground-based antennas will enjoy longer mission time due to lower power consumption, which allows using less battery life or generator fuel for the same time of data transmission.

“The new 60 Watt Ku-band GaN Block Upconvertor is a drop-in replacement to the previous generation product currently installed in thousands of systems,” said Bob Huffman, General Manager at Wavestream. “We are committed to continue to support our large customer base with leading products that best support their needs for longer missions while keeping electricity costs down.”
